The SPLA (Sudanese People's Liberation Army) was formed in 1983 and has fought against the governments of Nimeiri, Sadiq al-Mahdi and president Omar Bashir. The leader of the SPLA is Dr. John Garang and he has been the leader for 25 years and has been trained by the U.S. army. The SPLA is mostly made up of Southerns and Christians. The SPLA is a group of rebels that are fighting for what they want for their country. The armys Christians and Southerns are men and children. They fought against the president because the Janjaweed ran them out of the country, raped them, killed them,and burned down their villages. The rebels all ran into neighboring countries like Chad and the Central African Republic. The SPLA fIghts for what they want.
